Whilst both offer exceptional value that is hard to beat in East Africa, we prefer the superior tents. There are a two different room categories at Kichwa Tembo, the superior and the classic tents. Out of this period, this is an idyllic setting to spend a few days walking and generally taking in one of the last true wildernesses in the world. The camp commands fantastic views out across the plains of this famous region and plays host to the vast herds of wildebeest that roam through the rolling grasslands for approximately four months of the year from August until November. This provides a great variety of activities that will can everyone, no matter their age, happy. If you don't however feel like leaving your room then there is a built in day-bed to watch the wildlife casually wander by.Īlthough game drives are a firm favourite with everyone, extra activities are also on offer, hot air balloon safaris, cultural visits and bush banquets can easily be added to your agenda.

There is plenty of spacious guest areas to relax and rewind including a bar/lounge area, indoor and outdoor dining areas plus a pool that also overlooks the endless plains of the Mara. The Maasai-inspired rooms are elegant and timeless that come with an unbeatable view. Six species of primates and over 450 species of bird add to the Mara’s incredible natural diversity making it one of the best Africa Safaris on the continent. The Mara River is also famed for its enormous crocodiles, which lay in wait for the wildebeest and zebra during the excitement and drama of the migration. Leopard and serval are frequently encountered, while endangered black rhino can be found in the dense bush thickets. The migratory wildebeest, zebra, kongoni and topi join abundant elephant, hippo, buffalo, giraffe, lion and cheetah in the Mara. Known as the ‘spotted land’ to the Maasai, the reserve is home to a vast number of resident wildlife, as well as part of the annual phenomenon of the Great Migration. Immortalised through famous tales of olden day safaris, the Masai Mara National Reserve is one of the richest and most diverse wildlife areas in the world.
